The beginning of a new year feels like a blank page waiting to fill with inspiring adventures. No matter which hopes, desires and ambitions you wish to fulfil in 2023.

I am in Porto Santo. It feels like the ideal place for those seeking the proper “warrior’s rest” and to receive the new year joyfully. It’s the time to encourage new beginnings and habits. It’s the right place to disconnect from the hustle and bustle.

Porto Santo has an atmosphere of peace, inspiration, and serenity at this time of the year, contrasting with the popular summer months, which can be the opposite. For those who look for the beaten track, this is the best time to be here.

For nature lovers, there are many paths to explore, hikes, taking jeep tours to visit unique geological formations, and running on the best European beach, as been titled recently.

I am back from a long run at the almost empty beach this time of the year. I am reflecting on the new year’s freshness and the opportunity to embrace life, in this place, in this body with this mind.

Consistently adapting to change are vital to materializing our goals, resolutions, and the direction we love to pursue.

We benefit from being critical thinkers on this set, requiring us to rethink our views.

I now have the time to think slowly and to organize my year on a high level. I am eager to work on projects I believe in, face challenges, acquire new learnings, and embrace inspiring journeys.

Here are some ideas on how we might face the new year with a fresh mind, making our resolutions tangible for this year.

Wisdom
This quality doesn’t come from experience. It comes from reflecting on experience. Gaining insight and perspective is not about the years we’ve lived. It’s about the lessons we’ve learned.

Changing your mind is not a sign of losing integrity. It’s often a mark of gaining wisdom. Growth comes from staying open to revising your views.

Brainstorming
Brainstorming is a better approach to generating ideas separately. Following, bounce to assess and refine them. Collaboration begins with individual creativity.

Growth mindset
The highest form of self-confidence is believing in the ability to learn.

Character
Our value is not defined by what we achieve or acquire. It’s a matter of who we become and how we contribute to the world. Self-esteem should come from character, not success or status. The highest accomplishment is to be a person of empathy, curiosity, and integrity.

Curiosity
Building strong relationships is not about arguing less. It’s about arguing more constructively. The aim is not to reach a consensus on all opinions or shared values. It’s to understand each other’s views and respect each other’s values.

It’s time to stop rewarding people for dominating the discussion and start valuing quality over quantity.

Inspire yourself
Beating ourselves up doesn’t make us stronger. It leaves us down. Being kind to ourselves isn’t about ignoring our weaknesses. It’s about permitting others to learn from mistakes. We grow by embracing imperfections, not punishing them.

Minimalism at work
The best way to get ahead is not to burn out. In healthy cultures, quality of life means having a life you can celebrate. You’re encouraged to put your well-being above your work.

Hybrid work
From first-hand experience, hybrid work boosts productivity, creativity and well-being. Great collaborations don’t involve constant contact.

Look for Excellence
Perfectionists are more likely to burn out and less likely to embrace new challenges. Success depends on high standards, not being ideal. The target should not be perfection — it should be excellence.

Leadership & Integrity
Your highest loyalty belongs to principles, not to a leader. The commitment earns through character.

Writing
Writing is how you develop an inkling into an insight. Turning thoughts into words sharpens reasoning. What’s vague in your head is evident on the page. Writing is a tool for thinking.

Being present
It’s liberating to look for the doors which are open today. You can’t change who you’ve been, and it’s never too late to choose who you want to become. Identity is a decision, not an accidental encounter in life.

Have a joyful 2023! My best wishes to all of you.
