The Journey of The Modern Explorer
This journey changed the way I thoughtfully approach my life.
I notice new faces joining the Subtack notes and The Modern Day Explorer newsletter. This inspires me to write about the philosophy behind it today.
In 2010, I made the decision to leave Lisbon. It was a leap into the unknown, filled with excitement and uncertainty. I wanted to explore the world and understand my place in it. I sought a place to grow, both personally and professionally. This journey would transform me in unexpected ways.
The first few years were tough. Everything felt unfamiliar. I missed the comforting smells of home, the golden light of the Portuguese coastline, and the vast sandy beaches where I used to run. I missed Lisbon’s Portuguese Hatha yoga centre, my family’s warmth, and my friends.
The experience drained my mental strength and exhausted my physical energy. But in that discomfort, I found strength. I learned to adapt, be resilient, and embrace change and minimalism.
In my new homes in Scandinavia, I worked in Interaction, UX, and strategy in design. I led projects for companies like Ericsson, DesignIt, and Electrolux Design. I joined international teams. Each member brought a unique view shaped by their background and experiences.
